Freshman English

Romeo and Juliet - The Balcony Scene (II; ii)
The freshman class has just finished reading the blacony scene and we have discussed the what's happening with the language for this scene--trying to interpret what exactly Romeo and Juliet are saying to each other. We'll dig a bit deeper into this scene as we attempt the experience the full Shakespeare Effect.

For Wednesday we will take a look at the scene as portrayed in two film versions: Ziffirelli (1968) and Luhrmann (1996). The students will gain a better grasp of how Shakespeare's language has been interpretted by two different directors. In a way, they will be taking on the role of director, deciding how they'd shoot the scene if they were given the chance.
